Bibliomania
Bibliomania is an obsessive-compulsive disorder in which an individual has the habit of collecting books excessively.
I am proud to say that I do not have bibliomania. I do enjoy books, but I'm not a MANIAC about it. I can't say the same for my Uncle Jarvis. His books are piled to the ceiling; it's like walking through a labyrinth. The towers of books makes his house look dark and creepy, like an old Victorian, when in fact, he lives in an open-concept ranch.
I wonder if there is a word for obsessively reading the same book 12 times in immediate succession. I did that with "The Devil Wears Prada." Perhaps I should casually mention it to Dr. Channing at my next session. Or maybe not. She has a Prada handbag.

Oh no... I have Bibliomania! I love my books and hate it when I lend them out and don't get them back. We have them all over the house.
ReplyDeleteGreat post :O)
Madeleine: Yikes! I know a lot of people who could be categorized as bibliomaniacs. Maybe it's not a problem unless your books take over your house.
ReplyDeleteI don't have bibliomania. Thank goodness! I have other OCD symptoms but not that one!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the A-Z Challenge! I'll see you around!
Sherri: OCD is more common than I realized.
ReplyDeleteI think I have it. I've never loved shoes the way I love books and I do love my shoes. I cannot drive past a book store or a mall with a book store. I am averaging 3 - 5 books a week. Should I feel bad? LOL. I buy books coz I never want to not have something to read, I think my toddlers may want to read then when they 12, my 12 year old has books waiting for him when he turns 16. It nuts.
ReplyDeleteWendy: You are not alone. Personally, even if you have bibliomania, I don't see it as a problem. I think if someone is going to have OCD, why not bibliomania? Books are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have it. I can go a little far with books but maybe not to the extreme (I hope!)
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through the A-Z Challenge.

Giggle: Thanks for reading! The challenge is fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you for worryingly bringing this to my attention lol. I have really been collecting books lately, I have in excess of 20 book I've brought and haven't gotten round to reading. Furthermore I know if I go anywhere near a bookshop the pile will only continue to grow.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the interesting post.

Jack and Baygirl: I think I struck a nerve with a lot of people. All us book lovers are becoming paranoid. LOL
ReplyDeleteI may have a tinge of it but I know someone who really has it. His whole house is books stacked to the ceiling. No furniture. There are little pathways between the books. It looks like a fire hazard.
ReplyDeleteManzanita
Wanna buy a duck
Manzanita: Yes, I've seen it first hand as well. Rather creepy. Might be a good idea for a story (no pun intended)
